We were delighted to welcome back Chris Pringle (Lee ’18) on Thursday 6th November for a special lunchtime MedSoc session with our aspiring medical students.

Chris delivered an engaging and thought-provoking talk titled “Why I (Hate) Being a Resident Doctor” - a title that, as he explained, was not as negative as it might first appear! Speaking with honesty and humour, he explored both the challenges and the many joys of a career in medicine, offering students an authentic insight into the realities of life as a junior doctor.

Since leaving Aylesbury Grammar School in 2018, Chris has completed his MBBS and BSc in Translational and Molecular Haematology at Imperial College School of Medicine. He is now an FY2 doctor working in Acute Geriatrics at Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth, as part of his Foundation Years (2024–26) at Portsmouth University Hospital NHS Trust.

Chris’s reflections on the rewards and pressures of the medical profession provided invaluable perspective for our students, many of whom are considering pursuing medicine at university. His openness about both the challenges and the fulfilment of his role resonated strongly with the audience.
