What is The Aylesburian Annual Fund? The Fund helps to finance the short-term needs of the School, enables us to make improvements, and to provide opportunities for our students, that are not possible from the School’s current income. It gives the entire AGS community the opportunity to support the School.
Why do we need to ask for support? As a state academy school in Buckinghamshire we receive £4760 annually from the Department of Education to educate each student in Years 7 – 11 and just £4000 for each student in Years 12 & 13.
We are still in the bottom 20 lowest funded Schools in the country
Our funding just about covers our basic operating costs through efficient financial management but absolutely nothing further, and as we have been on this site for over century, many of our learning and teaching spaces are in need of our attention. We are successful in spite of some of our facilities - certainly not because of them. We have a detailed School Development Plan but there are no funds within our budget to update, refurbish and develop our School site. This is where you come in.
Our focus this year is on the much needed refurbishment of our Art/DT and Engineering Building and the Fund continues to support our Hardship Fund which helps financially disadvantaged boys to benefit from opportunities at AGS they normally would not have access to.
Some schools aggressively ask their parents to support them but we are keen to work in partnership with our community and to clearly explain why we need to ask. This doesn't mean that every family has to donate to the School - we know that's not always possible. Any contribution is voluntary and any donation, at any value, will have an impact. All the money raised is used to improve the AGS experience for every boy regardless.
Without support from our community, we would not have any of our recently developed facilities including our Science Centre, our Sixth Form Centre and our Library, in addition to smaller scale refurbishment projects including Maths, the ‘Old’ Gym and IT rooms. Our students benefit daily from our improved facilities.
AGS is a registered charity and so Gift Aid makes a tremendous difference to the impact of any donation. For every £1 you donate, the School receives an additional 25p at no cost to you. For example, a monthly donation of £10 a month would result in a total donation of £1050 over 7 years. With over 1200 families in our School imagine the work we could do if every family were able to give £10 a month?
Please remember it doesn’t matter how large or small you think your contribution is because whatever you give will help us. se remember that it
Aylesbury Grammar School needs your help. And when we say “your help”, we mean, if possible, we would like our community to give a small amount each month to enable us to improve facilities we cannot do with our current funding.
The Aylesburian Annual Fund offers an opportunity for every parent, old boy, member of staff, governor and friend to support both current and future generations of students at AGS. Through regular giving you can help to realise projects that urgently need our attention and which will benefit every student at AGS.
This year our Aylesburian Annual Fund is aiming to fund the refurbishment of Art, DT and Engineering. This area of the School is in dire need of updating and is no longer fit for teaching and learning the modern curriculum. The total cost is £450,000 and we are delighted to report we already have £300,000 from a generous donation from the John Mason Raven Trust.
We now need to raise £150,000 in gifts and pledges this academic year to complete the refurbishment summer 2020.
Any contribution, at any level, will help us If you can make a regular contribution, however small, then please set up a regular donation on the next tab. Thank you so much for any support you can give.
By making a £250 donation for your Inscribed Plaque, it is a chance to come together with the rest of the Aylesburian community, leave a lasting legacy and help to continue to make Aylesbury Grammar School the choice for local families.
This year our focus for fundraising is on the refurbishment of the Art, DT and Engineering Building which is no longer fit for purpose.
