What a fantastic evening of football!

We were delighted to welcome so many Old Aylesburians back to AGS for our 6-a-side Football Tournament. With 10 teams taking part, plus a number of individual players joining forces with other teams, it was wonderful to see the school grounds full of familiar faces, old friendships and plenty of footballing talent.

From the first whistle, there was a brilliant atmosphere. Everyone embraced the fun and competitive spirit of the evening, with plenty of determined challenges, good-natured banter and, perhaps most importantly, lots of smiles.

The tournament was expertly managed by long-time football lead Joel Barrie and Director of Sport Chris Duggan, who ran a tight ship throughout the evening, keeping the games moving and ensuring everything ran smoothly. Their organisation and enthusiasm helped make the tournament the success it was.

And the weather couldn't have been better. A dry, warm evening, perfect for a game of football, without being uncomfortably hot, provided the ideal backdrop for the tournament.

A special reunion with Pioneers '86

We were particularly delighted to welcome Graham Thorne's team, Pioneers '86, who brought with them a fantastic piece of AGS football history.

The team included Mr Bob Pain, a former Geography teacher at AGS, who played a significant role in establishing competitive football at the school. As the team explained:

"Bob was responsible for creating the first competitive football team at the school back in 1986. Wearing a borrowed kit on Wednesday match days, AGS remained unbeaten in all of their fixtures."

It was a wonderful connection between the school's footballing past and present, and a real pleasure to have Pioneers '86 joining us for the evening.

Congratulations to our winners!

After a series of closely fought and thoroughly enjoyable matches, it was Rob Churchill's (Paterson '16) team who eventually lifted the trophy, emerging as our tournament winners.

Football, food and catching up

For those who stayed on afterwards, the evening continued with pizza and drinks, providing a great opportunity to relax, catch up with old friends and reminisce about their time at AGS.

We were also delighted to show a few Old Aylesburians around the school when requested. It was lovely to see former pupils reconnecting with the school and sharing memories, while also seeing how much has changed since their own school days.

It was a wonderful way to round off a brilliant evening.

A huge thank you to everyone who came along to play, support and cheer from the sidelines. Seeing so many Old Aylesburians back at AGS, reconnecting with each other and enjoying themselves was exactly what we hoped the event would be about.

And, of course, our biggest thanks go to Joel Barrie and Chris Duggan for organising and running the tournament so brilliantly. Their hard work ensured that the evening ran like clockwork and allowed everyone else to concentrate on what mattered most – enjoying the football!

We hope to see many of you back at AGS again soon.
