We were delighted to welcome back Jon Evans (Hampden ’99) to Aylesbury Grammar School on Monday 28 September 2026, as part of our Sixth Form Inspirational Speakers Programme.

Jon, the current Chief Finance Officer at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust, spoke to more than 400 Year 12 and 13 students about his career journey, resilience, leadership and finding fulfilment at work.

Jon shared a personal account of his journey from a challenging childhood to becoming a senior NHS leader. He reflected on the important role AGS played in his life, describing the School as a crucial lifeline during his early years despite his struggles.

Having spent more than 20 years working in NHS Finance, Jon began his career on the NHS Graduate Training Scheme before qualifying as an accountant and completing an MBA at Alliance Manchester Business School, University of Manchester.

A key message from Jon was the importance of doing something you enjoy and finding purpose in your work. He values the satisfaction that comes from knowing his work is important and makes a difference to others.

He also shared his experiences of managing pressure and change, highlighting the importance of developing resilience and looking after both mental and physical health throughout a career.

The talk was very well received by our Sixth Form students and provided plenty of food for thought as they consider their own futures.

It was a pleasure to welcome Jon back to AGS and hear how his experiences at School helped shape the career and outlook he has today.
