Today, AGS had the pleasure of welcoming back Simon Beattie (Hampden '93), an Old Aylesburian and AGS parent, for Year 8 Languages Day. Simon helped to inspire the next generation of linguists by explaining the vast opportunities that learning languages can unlock in their future careers and the benefits of pursuing languages in their studies.
Simon, pictured above in the Professor William Mead Library with his book "At the Edge of the Night", a "brilliant new translation" (NB Magazine) of Friedo Lampe’s work published in 2019, shared his experiences and insights with the students. Besides being a translator, Simon is also a renowned bookseller and composer. His choral music has been performed in both the UK and the USA and has been broadcast on Radio 3.
We are grateful to Simon for taking the time to return to AGS and support the next generation of students. His visit was both inspiring and educational, and we hope it encourages many students to explore the world of languages.
