The new debating season at Aylesbury Grammar School kicked off in style on Friday 12th September with a vibrant and competitive event featuring mixed teams from AGS and Aylesbury High School (AHS). The evening showcased the talent, collaboration, and critical thinking skills of our students — and was made even more special by the return of a familiar face.

👏 Celebrating the Winners

Congratulations to the overall winners of the evening, Shyam (AGS) and Neovi (AHS), whose teamwork and compelling arguments secured them the top spot in a closely contested final.

🎓 Alumni Aymaan Sheikh (Ridley ’22) Returns as Guest Judge

A highlight of the evening was the return of Aymaan Sheikh (Ridley '22), an AGS alumnus and accomplished debater, who generously gave his time to deliver expert debating tips and serve as the guest judge for the final round.

Aymaan’s insight, experience, and thoughtful feedback were deeply appreciated by all participants. His presence not only elevated the quality of the debate but also served as an inspiration to current students, showing them where passion and dedication for public speaking can lead.

🙌 A Night of Teamwork and Dedication

Special thanks also go to last year’s Debate Committee - Manas Tanan, Hrishik Subramani, Kerththekan Vamethavan, and Emre Arslan - whose hard work and support  helped make the event such a success.

Looking Ahead

The AGS Debating Society is off to a strong start this year, with many more opportunities for students to develop their skills and engage in meaningful discourse. With alumni like Aymaan leading by example, the future of debating at AGS is in excellent hands.

Thank you to everyone who made the evening a resounding success!
