We were delighted to welcome back former A Level French and German student Bill, who returned to school to speak to our new Year 12 French and German students during their taster lessons as part of Sixth Form Orientation Day.

Bill also took time over lunch to meet with some of our aspiring Year 10 students who are considering Oxbridge and are particularly interested in languages or linguistics. His talks spanned a fascinating range of topics, from semantic bleaching to forensic linguistics, offering students a glimpse into the rich and diverse world of language study at university.

Our students especially enjoyed the chance to ask Bill questions in French about life at Cambridge, where he is currently studying. It was inspiring to see his passion for languages continuing to grow and to witness first-hand the impact of a strong foundation in modern languages.

We’re always proud to see our former students thriving—and even more so when they return to share their experiences and inspire the next generation.
