We were delighted to welcome back Old Aylesburian Simon Joyner (Ridley ’08) as guest adjudicator for this year’s House Music Festival, held on Thursday 12 February at the wonderful Aylesbury Waterside Theatre.
Simon is a highly accomplished trumpeter, composer and arranger, with a distinguished and varied career spanning performance, recording and education. He performs widely across the UK with the Down For The Count Swing Orchestra and has contributed to a range of recording projects, including the BBC hit series Fleabag and The Laszlo Project. Alongside his performing work, Simon composes for theatre and video games and has made a significant contribution to music education, including several years with the Ingenium Academy International Summer School for Music.
It was a pleasure to have Simon back in Aylesbury sharing his expertise and insight with our students. Reflecting on the evening, he was full of praise for the standard of performance and offered thoughtful and encouraging feedback to all six Houses.
A Celebration of Musical Talent
This year’s House Music Festival was a true celebration of the breadth and depth of musical talent within the school community. Over 1,000 guests and performers gathered for a fantastic showcase featuring students of all ages, with an impressive 360 students taking part.
From powerful choral performances to vibrant instrumental arrangements, the evening highlighted not only musical excellence but also the spirit of collaboration and House pride that defines the event each year.
While the standard was exceptionally high, only one House could lift the coveted trophy. Congratulations go to Denson House, who were crowned this year’s winners.
We extend our sincere thanks to Simon for returning to support this much-loved tradition and to every student, member of staff and supporter who helped make the evening such a resounding success.
