A thoroughly enjoyable Celebration of Sport Dinner here at AGS on Saturday evening. Our guest speaker was Mr Graham Poll, ex-professional football referee and father of OA Harry Poll (Phillips '18). Graham's speech was humorous, engaging and a story of humility in the face of challenge.
Thank you also to Mr Warner for the catering, the Year 12 sportsmen who served the tables, and the PTA for providing the bar. An AGS community effort!
Great to see our OAs including Bob Baker (Phillips ’08) – former Headboy and prominent OA rugby player, graduate of the Wasps Academy, a Blue from Oxford for the Varsity Match in 2012. James Waterhouse (Paterson ‘04) - Ex professional rugby player, Guest at Junior Prize giving in July 2015. Currently a journalist with BBC News. After leaving AGS in 2004, James studied Psychology at Sheffield University and embarked on a professional rugby career with Rotherham Titans, Plymouth Albion and Esher before moving into journalism and the sponsors of the Old Aylesburian football kit – Patrick Murphy, Jack Thompson, Matt Dickinson, Marcus Allen and Dom Butler.
The evening also provides an opportunity to thank all the sports staff for their selfless contribution to sport at the School. Well done to Sammy Robertson, James Richardson (who recently made his debut playing for England Schoolboys’ Under 18 team) and Harvey Mack who all spoke during the evening.
'I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed the dinner last night' 'Thanks for organising the sports dinner last night – I had a great time.' 'Graham Poll was fantastic. Engaging, funny and passionate' Old Aylesburians.
