We were delighted to welcome Craig Spencer (Denson ’10) back to AGS to speak to our Sixth Form students. With a remarkable career spanning the Civil Service and the Home Office, and honours including being awarded the Freedom of the City of London, Craig’s visit was both inspiring and thought-provoking.
During his talk, Craig shared his personal journey from his time at AGS through to university and into public service. He spoke candidly about his experience of coming out as a gay man, reflecting on the challenges he faced and the support that helped him thrive. His story resonated deeply with students, offering a powerful message about authenticity, courage, and resilience.
Craig also explored the vital importance of diversity, inclusion, and belonging - not just in education, but across sport, policing, and politics. He spoke passionately about the role individuals can play in shaping a more equitable society, and encouraged students to recognise their own potential to lead change in their communities and beyond.
In addition to his professional achievements, Craig is deeply committed to charitable causes, giving his time generously to organisations that support young people and marginalised communities. His actions reflect the core values of leadership, service, and social responsibility that we aim to instil in all our students.
We are incredibly grateful to Craig for taking the time to return to AGS and for sharing his story with such honesty, warmth and wisdom. His visit has left a lasting impression on our Sixth Form, inspiring many to think differently about their own journeys and the impact they can have on the world around them.
Thank you, Craig - we hope to welcome you back again soon.
