The School was delighted to welcome Wing Commander Lee Cobley (Hampden '76) to adjudicate this year’s Senior House Public Speaking competition, alongside Mark Sturgeon, Headmaster, and English teacher and Head of Year 10, Janet Sampson. The event showcased an impressive standard of speeches, with participants addressing a range of thoughtful and topical subjects, including the role of VAR in football, knife crime, the importance of words, and the power of storytelling.
Judges were particularly impressed by the high level of preparation, confidence, and engagement demonstrated by all speakers. Miles Glover (Denson 12) received the Speaker of the Day award for his passionate and compelling address on knife crime, which resonated strongly with both the judges and the audience.
The overall competition was won by the Ridley House team, comprising Hashim, Reon, Rami, and Khizr, whose coordinated and persuasive presentations secured them the top prize.
The Senior House Public Speaking competition continues to be a highlight of the School calendar, promoting eloquence, critical thinking, and confidence among students, and fostering the values of Belonging and Camaraderie.
