Aylesbury Grammar School recently welcomed back Dr Henry Barrow (Paterson ’12), who delivered a fascinating lunchtime session for our MedSoc students. Henry spoke openly about his journey into virology research, sharing the challenges he has faced and the lessons he has learned along the way. His candid reflections offered students an exceptional insight into a rapidly developing field and the realities of a career in scientific research.
After leaving AGS in 2012, Henry went on to study Biological Sciences (MSci) at UCL, before completing a PhD at the University of Cambridge, where his research focused on how viruses manipulate host cell biology. He is now a postdoctoral researcher at the Cambridge Institute for Medical Research, working on neurodegeneration.
Henry’s visit on Thursday 21 November provided a valuable opportunity for our aspiring medics to learn from an Old Aylesburian making remarkable contributions to medical science.
We are incredibly grateful to Henry - and to all our former students - who return to share their expertise and inspire the next generation of AGS medics.
