We were delighted to welcome back Scott Davies (Phillips ’04), current Player Manager of Slough Town FC, for another powerful and thought-provoking session in our Speakers Programme. Scott has become one of our most impactful returning speakers, and this visit was no exception.
In an honest and hard-hitting talk, Scott spoke openly about his experiences with gambling addiction, shining a light on the increasing prevalence of online and in-game gambling among young people. He shared candid reflections on the personal and professional challenges he has faced, offering valuable insight and support to our Sixth Form students. His message - grounded in lived experience - remains an important and highly relevant part of our ongoing wellbeing and awareness initiatives.
We extend our warmest thanks to Scott for giving up his time once again, and we wish him and Slough Town the very best of luck in their FA Cup match this weekend.
Adding a particularly special touch to the visit, we were also joined by Billy Munday (Paterson ’18), now a sports journalist at The Guardian. Billy returned to AGS to interview Scott ahead of Slough’s FA Cup tie on 7 December, following Scott’s session with the students. Billy recalled attending Scott’s talk during his own Sixth Form years, making the reunion between the two alumni especially meaningful.
Seeing former pupils reconnect with the school community - and with each other - was a wonderful reminder of the strength of the AGS alumni network. Their collaboration perfectly underscored Scott’s important message about gambling awareness, while also highlighting the paths our former students continue to forge beyond AGS.
We are incredibly grateful to both Scott and Billy for their contributions and look forward to welcoming them back again in the future.
