Old Aylesburian Jon Evans (Hampden '99) returned to AGS on Thursday 15 January to speak to members of the Medical Society, delivering an insightful and inspiring talk drawn from his extensive career in the NHS.
Jon is Chief Finance Officer at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust and has spent over 20 years working within the NHS. After beginning his career on the national graduate training scheme, he progressed into senior finance roles at major hospitals in London and across the South East, gaining a wealth of experience in healthcare leadership and management.
A qualified Chartered Management Accountant, Jon also holds an MBA from Alliance Manchester Business School.
During the talk, Jon spoke candidly about his career journey and the many positives of his role, particularly the opportunity to make a meaningful impact and to work with a wide range of professionals across clinical and non-clinical teams. He also provided valuable context about Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust and the challenges and responsibilities involved in senior leadership within the NHS.
A key theme of the session was the importance of developing leadership qualities alongside academic and professional qualifications. Jon encouraged students to seek out opportunities to build these skills early, emphasising their value in medicine and beyond.
The talk was described as really fantastic, with students gaining a great deal from Jon’s openness, experience and practical advice. It was an engaging and motivating session that gave students a clearer understanding of the many pathways available within healthcare and the impact they can have throughout their careers.
We are very grateful to Jon for taking the time to return to AGS and share his experience, and we hope to welcome him back again in the future.
