On July 15th, AGS hosted a special Donor Afternoon Tea to express gratitude to the generous donors who have supported the school over the past year. Tea and cake as served to over 80 guests and the event was a heartfelt thank you to those whose contributions have made a significant difference.
The afternoon began with a welcome from Headmaster Mark Sturgeon, who thanked the donors and highlighted the impact of their generosity. He noted that the School has reached 20% of the required funding for the "Pitch In" campaign, a crucial step toward achieving their goals.
The spotlight then turned to three students who shared personal stories about how participating in sports has positively influenced their lives. Ben Ludlam (Paterson 8), Jayden Mugonapanja (Phillips 10) and Ewan Gatt (Ridley 12) spoke confidently about the friendships they have built, the character they have nurtured, and the respect they have developed through sports, emphasising the broader benefits of participation in sport beyond physical fitness.
Chris Duggan, Director of Sport, followed with remarks on the overwhelming support received during the AGS Giving Day in March. He detailed the transformative potential of an all-weather pitch, explaining how it would revolutionise both curricular and extracurricular sports at AGS. His words underscored the tangible changes that donor contributions could bring to the school.
Sophie Price, an AGS parent and member of the Pitch In Campaign Board, closed the presentations by talking about the importance of paying it forward. She emphasised the philosophy of leaving the school in better condition for each new cohort, just as current students benefit from past philanthropy. Her message resonated with the donors, reinforcing the cycle of giving and improvement.
The afternoon was a wonderful occasion, providing an opportunity for AGS to personally thank its donor community at the end of a busy year of fundraising. The school is immensely grateful for the support received and looks forward to further progress in the Pitch In campaign.
